We are delighted to report that the Community Tent is back at the Sunday market in Herne Hill. We’ve been on hold due to the pandemic and our first session back was Sunday 12 September. We went for a ‘soft launch’ opening day, and it went really well. Lots of people stopped by to say hello and said how lovely it was to see the Community Tent back in action.
We were able to talk to people about our current projects such as Step It Up Herne Hill (which includes the Chariots of Fun free bike trailer scheme and the primary schools Walking Crocodiles), the campaign to extend Santander cycle hire to Herne Hill, and our Small Grants scheme… and we are open to discussions about anything and everything to do with Herne Hill. There are simple children’s activities to keep little ones entertained while you share your thoughts and find out what’s going on in your local area.
One of the most interesting aspects of the tent is that we host a wide range of local community groups and charities that have something to share with the people of Herne Hill. On our opening day we were joined by King’s Hospital Volunteers who were promoting volunteer opportunites at the hospital. Our next session is Sunday 26 September. In the morning (10am-1pm) we’ll have Zoie from Herne Hill Harmony and Singing Mamas, she runs two amazing choirs right here in Herne Hill, and in the afternoon (1-4pm) we’ll have Mark and others from Dulwich and West Norwood Climate Coalition, who will be promoting their ‘Speak Up for the Climate’ conference which is on Saturday 9 October, at the Baptist Church on Half Moon Lane.
We are planning to run the Community Tent once or twice a month, the dates for the rest of 2021 are listed below. Our tent is located just outside the main entrance of Herne Hill train station and we are there during market hours 10am-4pm.
Do come and say hi!
