Herne Hill’s Halloween may be a bit different this year, but it is far from cancelled! Instead of the usual Station Square party, we are moving things online so the fun can continue safely. We’ve got a Halloween party from Lucy Sparkles and Friends, live magic shows from Amigos Magic, competitions with great prizes, biscuit recipes and lots more.
Halloween Bop
Our local friendly witch, Jessica Sparkles, would like children under 7 to join her online for a 40-minute riot of Halloween fun. You can tune in anytime with the special password below:

Get dressed up and join in the dancing, bring a cape or scarf if you have one…expect songs, dance routines, potions and maybe even sparkles!
Live Magic Shows
Amigos Magic will be performing live magic tricks from Hogwarts Castle! Watch how to make sweets out of ear wax and smelly socks.. amongst other weird and wonderful things. There are two half-hour shows, one starting at 5pm and the other at 6pm on Sat 31st October. There’s only room in the castle for 100 guests, so arrive ten minutes early to bag a place. If you don’t already have Zoom installed, you can either download and install the app onto your computer before the magic show, or you can join the meeting using a browser. No account is needed but you do need passwords to get in – please email info@hernehillforum.org.uk in advance to receive the passwords.

Note for parents: please help us ensure this is a safe, online space. If you see anything going on that shouldn’t, please raise your digital hand in Zoom and use the chat function, or email admin@hernehillforum.org.uk. One of the Hogwarts team will be on patrol to wave their magic wand and make any baddies disappear.
Competitions
We don’t want you glued to your screens all day so here’s your chance to get creative! We’re running competitions in the following categories:
- Creative Costume: we want to see your amazing costumes, the more creative the better. Turn those cereal boxes into creepy robots…make some old tights into a spider outfit.. turn old sheets into bandages…you don’t need to spend money to look frightful! We’ll have prizes for each of the following age ranges: 0-4 years, 5–10 years, 10–15 years.
- Best Biscuit: get baking folks and make some truly horrific biscuits! Sweet Carolina has provided a recipe, or you can use your own. Our judges want to feel sick at the sight of them. We’ll have prizes for each of the following age ranges: 0-4 years, 5–10 years, 10–15 years.
- Wonderful Windows: take a walk round Herne Hill and send us a photo of the best Halloween window you can find. Or, why not make your own? We’ll want to know where you took the photo.
The prize is ten Herne Hill Halloween pounds (HHH£10) to spend in participating local shops up until the end of Sunday 6th December. You can choose whatever you like and can go to more than one of these super shops: Kinder La La, Bicycle Nation, Agile Rabbit, Minus 12o, Tales on Moon Lane, Duo Dance and Dough Bakehouse.
To enter the competition either share your photo on Twitter (tagging @hernehillforum) or send it to us on Facebook Messenger (find the Forum on Facebook here) or email us at info@hernehillforum.org.uk.
Tell us which category and age range you are entering, and the location of the decorated window. The deadline for entries is 11:59pm on 1st November. We’ll decide the winners on 5th November and will be in touch to ask for your postal address so we can post out the special spooky money to you. Please note: by sharing your photo with us you are allowing us to re-post it on our social media accounts and website.
Good luck! And if you’d like to hear more about what’s happening in Herne Hill, please sign up for our newsletter.
