Community Tent 2022 so far

We re-opened the Community Tent in September last year, having stopped due to the pandemic. Our stall is part of Herne Hill Sunday market and we’re at our usual spot right outside the train station, once or twice a month.

We share the tent with local charities and community groups that have something to share with the people of Herne Hill. We also have children’s colouring and craft activities to entertain the little ones while you chat.

We’ve had eight sessions so far this year and have been joined by the following community groups:

Frog Life – nationwide charity for the conservation of amphibians and reptiles, they have carried out specific projects in Ruskin Park and Brockwell Park

St Matthew’s Project – football and other structured sports activities for young people in Lambeth

Centre 70 – advice, counselling and wellbeing service for adults, based in West Norwood

Abbeyfield Dulwich – supported housing for elderly people on Stradella Road

Sing4All – community choir for over 60s, every Tuesday 2.15-3.45pm at Rosendale Community Hall

Healthy Living Platform – local charity that supports those who need help accessing food, through Brixton food hub, food parcel deliveries, cooking workshops and Food Ambassador scheme

Streamline Swims – open water swimming coaching

Brockwell Swimmers – swimming club based at Brockwell Lido

South West London Greenpeace – environmental campaign group, SW London branch meets at The Sun in Clapham, 7.30pm on the first Tuesday of each month

King’s Hospital Volunteering – volunteering arm of King’s College Hospital

If you are involved with a local charity or community group and would like to have a session at the Community Tent, please get in touch via email to info@hernehillforum.org.uk

We also need more volunteers to staff the tent. This involves helping set up and pack away, and being on the tent for a three hour slot (either 10am-1pm or 1-4pm). It’s a great way to meet local people, find out about what’s going on in your local area and feel connected to the community.
