Herne Hill Music Festival News - Syzygy Sax Quartet & composition competition! Day 6, Oct 17th

The Syzygy Saxophone Quartet are coming up at St Faith's Church in Red Post Hill (SE24 9JQ) on Weds night, 7:30pm. After meeting at the 2009 World Saxophone Congress, the quartet share a passion to promote contemporary music to new audiences. The group combine virtuosity and outstanding repertoire to give unique performances. From this commitment to the exciting and unexpected word of new music, their performances explore a huge variety of sound words from European to American works, from the arch-modernist to the pop-influenced.
The evening at St Faith's will take promotion of contemporary music to an extra special level on Wednesday, as it will also include the finals of the Festival Composition Competition! The competition is for composition and for writing for saxophone quartet. We invited composers to submit their pieces, up to 5 minutes long. We received 23. These were read through by the members of Syzygy and MD Alan Taylor in July, and 3 were shortlisted. These 3 are being performed in the final at St Faith's and the audience gets to vote to choose the winner. Come out & join in! £8/£5.
