The 2012 Festival
The 2012 Festival ran from October 12th to 20th. A Committee was set up to plan the event. There was good turnout, and and some great new projects. These included a composition competition - writing for Saxophone Quartet - and a collaboration between Dulwich Symphony Orchestra and Lambeth Saturday Music Centre - a new piece of music was rehearsed and performed by DSO and the pupils.
There was also bandstand music in Railton Road during Sunday Market early in September.
The 2013 Festival
We are now organising the 2013 Festival. The Festival is a non-for-profit membership organisation. Anyone can join and take part in running the Festival. We have an 9-strong Committee which does most of the work. We also need other people to help, especially to deliver Festival Programmes in September. If you woud like to help, get in touch through our web site - hernehillfestival.org

Re: Herne Hill Festival
Hi! is it possible to attend only one concert (for instance the 10.30 at the Half Moon)? If yes how much is it gonna cost and how can I get ticket? Thanks!
Re: Herne Hill Festival
Hi. Yes, you can come for just one concert. £5 or £3 concessions. Tickets on the door. See you there.
Re: Herne Hill Festival
I just wanted to say that I took my children to see the Bone-a-Fide Trombone quarted performance on Saturday evening and we all enjoyed it very much. The main reason for going was that my son (who is 10) plays trombone and it was a rare opportunity for him to see trombones in a starring role. I would have liked to take him to one or two of the jazz performances, too, but they were too late for him.
Is there any chance when planning next year's programme that some (particularly jazz) might be scheduled a bit earlier to accomodate a younger audience? I note from the feedback that the earlier performances that took place this year were not so well attended as the later ones. However, that might jsut be due to the fact that it's only the first year and word has not got around yet. For example, I wasn't even sure my children would be allowed into the performance (given that it was in the Half Moon) until I rang the pub directly for confirmation.
I have forwarded a copy of the programme to my children's schools as one to look out for next year and will wait with interest as this festival growns.
Best wishes,
Jean
Re: Herne Hill Festival
Jean,
Thanks for those comments, and glad you enjoyed the Festival events. I agree it would be a good idea to have daytime events, because this would open the Festival up to both children and to adults who might not want to come out in the evening.
The problem is that groups that need to cover their costs, or who earn their living by performing, need to charge, and my experience of the Festival and elsewhere is that it is only in the evening that a good paying audience can be attracted.
Next year it would be good to organise more free daytime events, and we have some ideas on that. It might mean the Festival or performers trying to obtain funding grants, which is always hard work. Any ideas on this would be really welcome.
Best wishes
Alan
PS I did contact all the local schools about taking part, but received no replies.
