The SLBI houses a fine botanical library and a historic collection of dried plant specimens, accumulated by founder Allan Octavian Hume and added to over the years. In addition to its general botanical collection, the library holds an extensive collection of books relating to the flora of different parts of the British Isles, and books written by its members.
The Herbarium (dried plant collection) incorporates the herbaria of the Croydon Natural History and Scientific Society and Dulwich College and is, surprisingly, rich in Shetland Island plants.
The SLBI is also open on Thursdays from 10am to 4pm abd by appointment at other times.
