Contribute to Herne Hill's building history
It would work like this. Let's say you're at Herne Hill books, and are interested in what the building was used for in the past. So you scan a small QR code on the window with your phone, and this downloads a short MP3 file of someone (perhaps one of our local celebrities, like James Nesbitt or Jay Rayner) saying what the earliest recorded use for the building is, what it has been over the years, etc.
You could listen to it there and then, or move on to other nearby shops and pubs to do the same. Hopefully it would encourage trade, and at the very least would show us to be a forward looking south London village...
If you know about Herne Hill's buildings history, you can contribute by filling in this short form!

Why not extend it to houses as well? I recently got all the title deeds to my house in Hollingbourne Road back from my solicitor as I was trying to trace the origins and history of my property (1901 incidentally!) and some of it is just fascinating. There's a lot of rich history around the area beyond the local businesses etc!
Great iniative BTW... would work well... There might even be nicer ways of doing it other than QR codes too. There are APPs like Blippar - http://blippar.com - that might even let you do it by just photographing the building rather than having to scan a QR code.
