Step out in Herne Hill
In February we held a free pie event in Herne Hill. The aim was to get everyones ideas about the future use of the semi-pedestrianised area outside the station.
We had the benefit of having Living Streets there interviewing people on the day as well as over previous days around Herne Hill. They were wanting to know what people liked about Herne Hil and what they felt about the open space outside the station and what ideas they had for future uses and events.
There were some great ideas and suggestions, all very welcome. Living Streets have provided a condensed summary of all the feedback to give an idea of what people think about the issues. It is availanble for download here.
It will help us plan future activities for the area and we are really grateful to everyone for spending the time have a chat and a slice of pie with us.
Update on Railton Road - a new market
New market in Railton Road?
There’s lots of scope to use the semi-pedestrianised stretch of Railton Road and one option is a regular market.
Markets provide a buzz and sense of community by creating an enjoyable place to linger, browse, stop for a drink and meet people. Of 300 local people interviewed last month, 91% want a market. They’re also a very good way to support local shops - the sheer numbers of people visiting can boost shop takings considerably.
Be a star in Herne Hill
Be a model for a day!
National charity Living Streets is looking for real people and families who live in or near Herne Hill to take part in a charity photo shoot next Tuesday afternoon. Anyone and any age welcomed.
Volunteers will receive a free portrait/family group photo taken on the day as well as a goody bag to thank them for taking part. It's expected that volunteers will be required for half an hour or so.
The photos will be used to promote Living Streets' community activity in the area but will also be used on national materials and websites to promote walking more generally. If you're interested in taking part please email info@livingstreets.org.uk for more details.
