Concordia Summer Concert 2012 - "Music inspired by the Chapel Royal"
Fresh from their Copenhagen tour the Concordia Chamber Choir, under their conductor Dan Ludford-Thomas, return to their home town of Dulwich to bring you their Summer Concert 2012 - "Music inspired by the Chapel Royal". The Chapel Royal has spread its magic over the listening world now for over six hundred years. Concordia has brought together some of the music associated with it across the centuries, from early masters such as Tallis and Purcell, right up to Howells, a modern admirer and contributor.
Included in this varied program are two strangely matched pieces, centuries apart but with similar purpose. Purcell's "Funeral Sentences for the Death of Queen Mary" was written in 1695, and Howells "Take Him Earth for Cherishing", composed after the death of John F. Kennedy in 1963 was also linked with Howell's loss of his son. Both are extraordinary and poignant works. We know that Howell's music was greeted in America by audiences reduced to tears. We but guess at Purcell's reception.
Cambria Choir concert
The Cambria choir now has over 40 members, and are singing their seasonal concert at the Cambria this Monday evening. It's free of charge and proves hugely popular.
Conducted and arranged by Sarah Fisher and Lucy Davies, the choir are sounding rather fantastic, in preparation for their entry at the Choir of the Year. If you want to eat whilst watching, book a table in advance by calling the Cambria. Expect a vaired programme, from rousing ballads to uplifting pop anthems.
