We've created these community pages, first on Facebook and now here, to help users of Brockwell Lido's gym (including classes) and spa share information among themselves, with our managers at Fusion, with our larger Lido users group, BLU, as well as with the Lido Cafe.
We hope that people come here to socialize, but more importantly come here for breaking news about the facilities - be it news of adjusted operating hours (might save you a trip!), new classes, recommendations, praise, complaint, almost anything! We aim to keep it lively and informative across the broad range of topics connected to Lido-centred exercise, health and well-being, all year round.
We hope this entity will be interactive and note that in no way is this a stand-in for BLU's presence. Without BLU championing and preserving the Lido there would be neither the ambience and the facility which we treasure. You can find BLU's entity here on the Herne Hill Forum under Groups and we list their website below.
We aim to be a resource for BLU, Fusion and users alike. We are classified as a campaign here just because no other description fits!
Join us and make it what you want it to be and in the process help yourselves make the Lido be the best it can be!

Re: Brockwell Lido Gym & Spa Forum
April 19th: On Weds the therapy pool was down due to chemical imbalance -- this has probably been sorted out by today but Fusion still await a part to be able to increase water temperature. Otherwise the sauna has been running at between 80-85 and the steam has been intermittent.

Re: Brockwell Lido Gym & Spa Forum
31 March: Attention spa users, always use a locker! So that means be sure you have a padlock. A sign's up behind the therapy pool letting you know this. SPA REPORT! Therapy pool continues disappointingly cool, several users have grumbled this has been ongoing for a few weeks. Steam best in show, sauna between 85 and 90 ... and that's probably your Easter Monday forecast. Don't forget the more curtailed hours.
Re: Brockwell Lido Gym & Spa Forum
Weds 6th March 2013 SPA REPORT! Hydrotherapy pool temporarily out of action due to boiler problem. Some of the sauna benches were advertised as fixed late last month. Have you noticed the difference? Had a complaint from a young woman who found one section unstable two weeks ago and nearly fell over. We trust the fix was to shore that up! Don't forget the new tai chi classes at the Lido commence on 13th March 2013.
Also of note: Fusion is currently running its "Refer a Friend" promo - a free month if a referral takes out a Choice membership.
Re: Brockwell Lido Gym & Spa Forum
BROCKWELL LIDO GYM & SPA USER FORUM OP-ED
There is a time and place for everything. So we're asking you to keep the Lido Spa a mobile (esp smartphone) free zone. Where better than to post this than on social media!? Phone use has slowly but surely crept into the spa during the past 6-12 months - precedent has already been set. This week we had two users take phones into the sauna at the same time despite protest by others using the same space. One removed himself with his phone, the other refused citing self-employment needs. We've had people take them into the therapy pool in plastic bags. Today no less than three people were having extended conversations at the same time on loungers. And it seems to work a bit like contagion: one person either makes or takes a call or begins texting, which reminds someone else about their phone - so they get theirs out which ripples to a third and so on. Fusion won't enforce a no-phone policy, leaving it to common courtesy. But especially where phone need is concerned, common courtesy doesn't seem to apply. Phone use in the gym is understandable - many people use their phones to play music while exercising, etc. Different ethos. But a vast majority still use the spa to chill out, detox, and get away from it all. Help respect that. You can always justify phone use but the challenge here is to leave it off. If you use your phone in the spa because you're bored - you're probably in the wrong place.

A nation addicted to smartphones
New Ofcom research reveals the extent to which the UK has become addicted to smartphones, with people confessing to using them everywhere from the dining table to the bathroom and bedroom.
Over a quarter of adults (27 per cent) and almost half of teenagers (47 per cent) now own a smartphone, according to Ofcom’s latest Communications Market Report.
Most (59 per cent) have acquired their smartphone, which includes devices such as iPhones, Blackberrys and Android phones, over the past year.

SPA REPORT! for Feb 10th:
Steam remains out of order due to at least one broken pipe. No idea how long to repair. Sauna at 85. Therapy pool at a good temp but floor jet remains inoperative. Fusion know about it and there is a plan to fix it but has been in this state for quite some time. Not very crowded after 8pm on Saturday, and peaceful until around 2pm on Sunday when the usual afternoon crowd arrives.
Re: Brockwell Lido Gym & Spa Forum
BLU had their monthly meeting with Lido managers yesterday (Weds, 6th Feb). The spa was on the agenda. Couple of user comments issued on the Facebook page:
* It might be nice to have a shower that can be set to cold in the spa ? It's a nice option for sauna /steam room users as the existing ones cannot be adjusted purely for cold water ~ The water fountain in the spa needs a good dose of bleach.

LIDO GYM REPORT! for Jan 11th
This morning T.J. said everything was up and running in the gym, with the exception of a cross trainer. He says he's been fairly happy with Life Fitness since the shift and that when there are breakdowns repairs happen promptly. A trainer told us that two monitors on two cross trainers are down for the count just now but otherwise things are OK.

Brockwell Lido Spa Report! Jan 5th
Spa Report for last night Jan 5th: All up and running hot - sauna at 90, steam healthy, hydrotherapy pool on usual jet rotations and still missing the floor jet. Also all deck showers are operating again! So all good except for the few who always manage to come along and eat in the loungers leaving their rubbish, and some exfoliating out in the open, leaving debris in water pools by the loungers! We managed to get the eater to stop by notifying staff - and it was cleaned up soon after.

Brockwell Lido closing times this weekend, Dec 29th/30th
Don't forget this weekend there are extra special closing times at the Lido for gym and spa - 6pm. This means out of both at 5:30! Then on Monday, the 4pm shutting time means out by 3:30pm. New Years Day completely closed. Back to normal hours on Tues. But not to despair: if you want a swim somewhere (or a gym) nearby tonight (Sat), a later game in town is Brixton Rec with last ticket at 7:30pm! Yay! It will be later on Sunday as well, but ring 020 7095 5100 option 4 to find out how much later!
Re: Brockwell Lido Gym & Spa Forum
SPA REPORT! for December 28th 2012 ... All working although two of the hydrotherapy pool's key underwater jets (the big floor jet and the bubble beds) remain out of order. But the water was hot yesterday, so if you're looking for a good warmup, bring a book and camp out! Otherwise sauna at 80 and steam OK. Don't forget the premises will close at 8pm tonight Friday night ... shortened hours this week anyway, but earlier Friday closing constitutes the new routine maintenance hours recently established and which will carry forward into the new year.

Lido Crisis swim & Christmas carols wrap
It was a busy weekend at the Lido! Well over 100 strong turned up for the Crisis winter swim on Saturday (weather mild for it!) and the carols poolside went well too (again mild if a little rain). Both events earned money for charities. Pictured below is our Fusion manager Clare Motton collecting donations for carol entry and handing out songsheets!
Re: Brockwell Lido Gym & Spa Forum
Lido Spa Report 19th Dec (eve), early spa closing, Xmas hours, gym news
It has been a good week in the Lido spa, with most facilities up and running most of the time - with the possible exception of the hydrotherapy pool which, while hot, sometimes hasn't had all jets firing during underwater and overhead jet rotation. Last night only the big floor jet was out of order. Sauna's been a bit cool at around 78 to 82 as a matter of course, but the steam room is working well again. Elsewhere still waiting on the showers in the men's changing to be sorted - repair date has been set for the 21 Dec, which has meant nearly a month's wait so far. Not usually a problem unless everyone's trying to take a shower at once - such as at closing.
Users will have noticed that since hydrotherapy pool overhaul, the overhead and underwater jets are no longer user controlled. These now each work on a 15 minute timer, alternating between the two function groups. So the water is never still. To ensure the pool works efficiently, it has been decided to shut the spa to do cleaning maintenance on the pool at 8pm on Fridays every week. As a consequence it has been decided to shut all of the spa. Friday night was chosen based on having checked lower attendance figures at this time.
Fusion has also been checking attendance figures for the gym over Christmas. In previous years gym attendance in late afternoon/early evening during Christmas/New Year holiday periods has not been high. Available Xmas hours are listed below and these are relatively unchanged for 2012 but they are something of an experiment for this season. According to BLU: "So USE YOUR GYM this year otherwise opening times may be shorter at Christmas 2013!! " Winter swimming continues at normal times during the holiday period.
Holiday opening times of Brockwell Lido gym and spa and Car Park:
Monday 24 December 8am – 4pm
Tuesday 25 December Closed
Wednesday 26 December Closed
Thursday 27 December 7am – 8pm
Friday 28 December 7am – 8pm
Saturday 29 December 8am – 6pm
Sunday 30 December 8am – 6pm
Monday 31 December 8am – 4pm
Tuesday 1 January 2013 Closed
Wednesday 2 January Normal opening times

Completed Shane Green Olympic wood sculptures in Brockwell Park
With the Paralympics nearly upon us and given the previous mention we have given him on this forum, it seems appropriate to show you what Shane Green delivered with his chainsaw wood sculpture work in Brockwell Park during the Olympics. You'll recall Brockwell Park was one of 9 London parks Green chose to work in for his "Olympic trail". In Brockwell Park he created one sculpture for Gymnastics and one for Sailing. These are well worthwhile taking a walk to and checking out. You can find Gymnastics up by the tennis courts and Sailing is located by the ponds. But if you can't be bothered you can see them both in the photo composite here.

OLYMPIC TORCH IN LAMBETH THURSDAY
Thurs 26 July sees the Olympic torch depart from Camden at 6.48am and reach Lambeth at 12.10pm at the Denmark Hill/Coldharbour Lane junction from Southwark and travel down: Coldharbour Lane • Acre Lane (passing Windrush Square) • Clapham Park Road • Clapham High Street • Long Road • Cedars Road • Queenstown Road •
If you go out for a butcher's, be aware that the torchbearer will run with a special team from the Metropolitan Police Service - the Torch Security Team. They run in a bubble around the Torchbearer, no one should try and enter into that bubble whilst the convoy is on the move. This is for their own safety as much as the torchbearer’s as the relay is a moving convoy of motor vehicles. It’s the job of the Torch Security Team to stop people from trying to get into the bubble around the Torchbearer! Spectators are advised to use public transport and to leave their cars at home if possible. Some bus routes may be diverted, so expect delays!
There will be sections of congestion on these roads and pavements and high levels of pedestrian activity so regardless of your means of travel, it will likely be busy and slow moving. Visit the TfL website www.getaheadofthegames.com to check your journey.
Sorry but the torch map posted has been lifted from Southwark because Lambeth hasn't posted one!
Re: Brockwell Lido Gym & Spa Forum
The 'Breakfast Run of Hope' happening in Brockwell Park in September was 'cooked up' by Catherine Weight, a South African living in London who combines her twin passions - baking and running - for an event that's "appealing and fun while raising money for a great cause". Catherine began by baking for friends' birthdays and other special occasions in return for donations to Starfish. Then, wanting to reach out to a larger group of donors than expat South African friends, she went on to organise a half-marathon and raise money for a place in the London Marathon for Starfish.
The Starfish Breakfast Run 2012 hopes to raise around £10,000 for children in South Africa.

The screening by Luna of 'The Anchorman' at the Lido last night looked well attended, despite the relatively high entry cost (£12.50 and no BYOB) and some threat of rain. The next outdoor film at the Lido will happen on 29th August and will be 'The Lost Boys' as voted in 'by the audience in a public vote'. Which audience? But a cult classic nonetheless.
