A brief history of the Herne Hill Forum
Started way back in 1999 it was set up to provide a conduit between the local residents, traders and Lambeth and Southwark councils. It holds regular public meetings where numerous issues are discussed and reviewed. From these discussions many successful campaigns have begun.
The Forum got the bike racks installed outside Herne Hill Station, parking changes - CPZ, time plates and zones all either changed or introduced in numerous locations in the area.
We have worked with the traders in Norwood Road to get the trees planted (thanks to Southwark councillors for helping on this) and also outside Herne Hill Parade and to secure a major grant towards environmental improvements to Norwood Road.
The Forum has been instrumental in working with other local groups to get the Brockwell Lido a new lease of life, refurbishment and improved facilities.
We also provided a platform for discussion regarding the site of the new Academy School in Shakespeare Road and the issue of where the rubbish trucks would be relocated to.
Recently we have worked with Lambeth Council to get the redesign of the Herne Hill Junction to improve the traffic flow and to create additional public spaces that will be traffic and car free.
We have received grants from Lambeth and Southwark councils to pay for some of the meetings, our leaflets in the area and some additional work in and around Herne Hill.
We are a constituted body and our current constitution is available for download here.
We are run entirely by volunteer help, people giving up their time, contributing expertise in a wide variety of areas to create the Forum, improve their local community and environment. If you want to get in contact with the Forum directly then please send us an e-mail
Welcome aboard.
